Introduction to JavaScript
What is JavaScript?
JavaScript was initially developed to add interactivity to web pages and was stored alongside web content on the server. When users browse the web, it is downloaded to the client machine , and runs in the browser. The other two components essential for web development are HTML and CSS.
However, with continued investment in the software industry, JavaScript has now evolved to be used independently for back-end server development (e.g., Node.js) and mobile app development.
How do we learn it?
We will cover it in three stages. The first stage will introduce the JavaScript language itself, which is fundamental for all areas, including web development (often referred to as front-end development), server-side development with Node.js (often referred to as back-end development), and mobile app development.
The second stage will focus on its use in web development. It has some features provided by browser vendors that we can use to help the web page achieve interactive behaviors. The third part will cover back-end development, and the fourth part will introduce its application (APP) in mobile development. The third and fourth parts are two different application areas of the language, so they will be combined into the third stage.
What does JSCodeCamp provid
Improvement in a programming language comes through practice, not just reading. Behind each knowledge point, we will provide a large number of exercises to help readers master and reinforce their understanding.
1. JavaScript Basic - Stage One
This section is aimed at beginners and introduces the basics of the JavaScript language without using any obscure computer terminology such as compiler, runtime, etc. It covers fundamental aspects common to any programming language, such as variables, data types, operators, and more.
After studying this section, you should understand some basic programming concepts and be able to use them to solve simple problems.
2. JavaScript on Browser - Stage Two
In this section, we will provide a detailed introduction to the features offered by the browser and how JavaScript utilizes them. This is suitable for readers learning JavaScript for web development. This is also referred to as “front-end development.”
3. JavaScript Framworks - Stage Two
JavaScript offers a variety of powerful frameworks and libraries to streamline the development of modern applications. React is a widely-used library for building user interfaces, known for its component-based architecture and virtual DOM that enhances performance.
Angular, developed by Google, is a comprehensive framework that provides a robust set of tools and conventions for building complex single-page applications. Vue.js is another popular framework that is praised for its simplicity and flexibility, allowing developers to incrementally adopt its features.
3. Node.js - Stage three
Since the advent of Node.js, JavaScript can also be used for back-end development. Here, we will learn about JavaScript’s capabilities on the server side, such as handling I/O operations, accessing databases, and more.
4. JavaScript Mobile - Stage three
JavaScript, with the help of frameworks, can be used to generate various types of apps. This section will introduce some commonly used frameworks, such as React Native, Ionic.
